Position Purpose:
The Director of Education Abroad and Global Programs is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of education abroad and several global initiatives at the university. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and international education expertise to promote, expand and enhance the education/study abroad and other global experience for students, particularly those who are from underrepresented groups.
The Director will oversee the development of new education abroad programs, including the creation of new and existing faculty-led study abroad programs. Working closely with faculty, the Director will supervise the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives and other faculty engagement in global programming, support and provide leadership to the flagship Junior Year in Munich program and the Office of Fellowships. In addition, the Director will develop a plan for working with third-party study abroad providers and will manage and maintain the university's international agreements and partnerships.
Essential Functions:
Develop and implement a comprehensive education abroad and global programs strategy, aligned with the organization's mission and goals. Provide leadership and guidance to staff members involved in study abroad programs, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with policies and regulations. Monitor, assess and expand study abroad offerings, including those offered by third-party providers. Establish and manage risk management protocols, emergency response plans, and ongoing support services. Stay updated on trends and best practices in international education, study abroad regulations, and global mobility programs to ensure program quality and compliance. Establish a comprehensive framework to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of education abroad programs and regularly review and monitor data to identify areas of improvement and update accordingly.
Work closely with faculty and facilitate collaboration across departments and the campus, particularly as it relates to faculty involved in education abroad programs, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), exchange programs, and other international opportunities. Work with academic departments to ensure education abroad programs include the necessary rigor and academic quality and integrate seamlessly with curricula, enabling students to earn credits to contribute to their degree requirements.
Manage international partnership agreements and supervise staff who process the agreement and manage the database. Work with the VP and assistant VP to evaluate agreements and identify and develop new areas for growth.
Manage the budget for education abroad and global programs, including financial planning, resource allocation, and monitoring of expenditures.
Oversee the Junior Year in Munich program and the Office of Fellowships.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree
Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)
Experience at an accredited university or four-year college, with a minimum of 7 years' experience in international education. Experience in the administration of university-wide programs, including managing a diverse constituency (both academic and non-academic) and working with faculty.
Preference given to candidates with personal experience of living outside the United States, fluency in a language other than English, and academic achievements in the area of international studies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Master's degree in International Education, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
Several years of experience in study abroad program management or international education administration, preferably in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of study abroad best practices, program development, implementation, assessment, risk management, and compliance with relevant regulations.
Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with international institutions and stakeholders.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and budgets.
Familiarity with technology platforms and software used in study abroad program management and student support.
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in international education.
Flexibility and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
