Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for an Admissions Counselor on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

The Graduate Admissions Counselor is responsible for guiding prospective students through the admissions process, providing personalized support and information about graduate programs. This role involves evaluating applications, conducting interviews, and collaborating with faculty to ensure a seamless transition for new students. Additionally, the counselor engages in outreach activities to promote programs and enhance the overall student recruitment experience.

Working independently under the supervision of the Director of Graduate Admissions & Student Success, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for meeting or exceeding the statewide graduate recruitment goals for Tift College of Education. The incumbent will articulate the mission and values of the university to prospective students. Moreover, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for the overall coordinator of admission and retention for graduate Education students, including scheduling and implementing appointments and events. The incumbent works regularly with Admissions and Marketing colleagues for ATL/RAC, the academic department chairs, Associate Deans, and Dean of Tift College of Education, all academic program directors, as well as staff members engaged in Admissions, Financial Planning, the Registrars' offices, Alumni and Development, Student Services, and Career Services functions.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Rhetoric/Communications, Leadership, Liberal Arts, or other related field is required. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier as this position does require some travel.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Sound knowledge and experience of postsecondary recruitment, admissions and financial aid
  • Database enrollment management techniques
  • Ability to implement “state of the art” marketing and recruitment strategies
  • Planning, organizing, management skills, processing and technology
  • Leadership and team building skills
  • Excellent communication skills (writing and speaking)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications for letters, mailings, etc.
  • Understanding the specific needs of working adult students


Success Factors:
Personable, outgoing, self-starter, confident, articulate, good oral and written communications skills, team player, willingness to go beyond what is required to meet goals. Excellent grammar, proofreading and writing skills; an understanding of traditional and nontraditional education; experience in marketing and advertising development and strategies; and the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time, to meet deadlines, and to follow through on tasks to completion. Critical thinking and evaluation skills are required, as is an advanced level of proficiency with appropriate technologies.
