POSITION SUMMARY

The Yamhill Valley Campus General Education and Student Affairs Dean reports to the Executive Dean of General Education and Transfer Studies. The Dean provides leadership and supervision to a diverse and comprehensive mix of faculty and staff. This position is charged with promoting and overseeing the operations of general education and academic transitions programs and student services that enhance student success, retention, and achievement of student learning outcomes. The Dean is responsible for the fiscal management of the department budget.

This position also works directly with the Executive Dean of Student Affairs for issues related to student services at the Yamhill Valley Campus, and the Yamhill Valley Campus Dean of Operations and CTE to ensure continuity of all services.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Motivates and encourages all team members to actively participate in continuous improvement activities in order to facilitate delivery of effective, high-quality services to both internal and external customers. May be asked to learn, lead, and use Lean practices
  • Provides effective leadership for instructional programs in General Education, Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Spanish GED; including their development, implementation, assessment, and improvement
  • Supervises salaried classified, full time and adjunct faculty, and PT/hourly staff, including recruitment, screening, mentoring, evaluation, and/or disciplinary action
  • Effectively manages multiple priorities
  • Encourages participation in staff development activities
  • Fosters collaborative communication among Yamhill Valley Campus staff
  • Provides problem solving and guidance for staff and students; communicates with staff about emerging issues and changes; provides clear, consistent communication to students, staff and the community
  • Provides strong leadership and represents the department through a participatory management style, team-building activities, and problem-solving techniques
  • Implements short-term and strategic goals and objectives to enhance department and college success; creates opportunities for change that align with Chemeketa’s mission
Student Services Management
  • Plans, supervises, and manages the delivery of educational and support services; analyzes students, staff, and community needs and resources to determine and/or develop course schedules
  • Develops, coordinates, markets, and assesses programs
  • Provides problem solving and guidance for staff and students
  • Provides clear, consistent communication to students, staff, and the community
  • Supervises and coordinates activities supporting Yamhill Valley Campus Student Services including: counseling and advising, library and tutoring, testing, retention, recruitment, veterans, and disabilities services. These activities and programs will be coordinated with district wide departments to align and increase student access and district wide goals
  • Actively participates on and leads various college committees, projects and initiatives
  • Participates in the college’s accreditation steering committee; provides direction to meet and maintain accreditation standards
  • Facilitates student conduct review and resolution, participates in college Behavioral Intervention Team, Threat Assessment Team, and acts as Title IX contact for Yamhill Valley campus
  • Develops funding proposals and/or participates in grant opportunities in support of local needs; assures goals, time frames, and conditions of grants are met by developing and maintaining systems to administer each project, and evaluating its quality and effectiveness
College Collaboration & Community Liaison
  • Builds, maintains and strengthens collaborative partnerships with Yamhill County community agencies, organizations, and school districts: facilitates networking of related resources to most effectively serve students, staff, and partner agencies
  • Actively participates in business and community organizations to create public and customer awareness of Yamhill Valley Campus and college services; makes presentations about services, programs, and outcomes
  • Leads Yamhill Valley Campus strategic planning and program evaluation
  • Convenes and conducts meetings; performs needs assessments, serves on community-based boards; develops interagency collaboration; collaborates with public and private groups as well as with individuals
  • Maintains communication and collaboration with academic departments and program areas
  • Serves as a member of department, division, academic council, and college-wide management teams; serves on tasks forces, hiring committees and other groups as needed
Budget Oversight
  • Responsible for fiscal management of department budgets; prepares and recommends operational budget
  • Approves and monitors expenditures
  • Advocates for program needs and requests;
  • Explores new resources

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Adult education, human services, counseling, education, or related field
-AND-
Two years' supervisory experience
-AND-
Four years' experience consisting of a combination of the following areas: curriculum development; teaching in adult, secondary, or post-secondary setting; oversight of student services programs; and/or successful experience working with external agencies in service or project management

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Adult education, human services, counseling, education, or related field

Two years' supervisory experience
-AND-
Two years' experience consisting of a combination of the following areas: curriculum development; teaching in adult, secondary, or post-secondary setting; oversight of student services programs; and/or successful experience working with external agencies in service or project management

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

SCHEDULE & MODALITY
Based on individual assessment, business needs, supervisory discretion and/or college directives, a percentage of the duties of this position may be performed remotely.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100%, 12-month exempt assignment of the D3 band and grade
  • This position has a 1-year probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
