POSITION DETAILS

The Assistant Director of Enrollment for International and Immigrant Students (Admissions Specialist) will report to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment.

This position will work closely with the international student office, immigrant student success team, and be a lead on efforts to serve first generation college students.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Assistant Director will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

  • Collaborate with the admissions team to design and implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy tailored to international, immigrant, and first-generation students. This includes leveraging both in-person and virtual platforms for outreach.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for key stakeholders, including community organizations and campus departments, to cultivate strong partnerships that support the recruitment and retention of diverse student populations.
  • Lead the organization and execution of on-campus events for prospective and admitted international and first-generation students. This includes onboarding activities, welcome events, and ongoing programming to support current students.
  • Maintain strong connections with enrolled students and actively recruit ambassadors from international, immigrant, and first-generation communities to enhance peer engagement and support.
  • Act as an alternateDesignated School Official (DSO), providing essential support to the International Students’ Office and guidance to the F-1 international community regarding visa maintenance and compliance.
  • Foster relationships with campus departments, student affairs professionals, faculty, and external organizations to create collaborative recruitment opportunities and enhance the visibility of programs for immigrant and international applicants.
  • Contribute as an active member of the admissions team, working under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment to achieve departmental goals.
  • Supervise and mentor 1-2 staff members, delegating tasks and projects effectively to ensure successful execution of recruitment initiatives.
  • This position requires occasional travel and availability for evening and weekend events to meet the needs of prospective and admitted students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
  • Candidates for the position must possess an excitement to work with students from across the globe, a willingness to work outside normal office hours, as well as strong customer service skills and strong computer skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of higher education enrollment trends and marketing preferences for prospective student audiences from around the world.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A high level of organization and attention to detail. Ability to effectively communicate with

senior level leadership and faculty members.

  • Capacity to work efficiently and independently on multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple groups of people.
  • Ability to collaboratively interact as a member of a team.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree with 3-5 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience combined.

Supervises activities in an operational unit supporting Admissions and/or Enrollment.

  • Oversees staff activities; plans and monitors employee scheduling and coverage and coordinates training
  • Serves as liaison to one or more departments providing student support services, such as Financial Aid
  • Coordinates selection process activities such as applications review, verification of information, and timely forwarding of data to other CUNY areas
  • Coordinates mailings and other communications
  • Monitors activity and reports on both transactions and outcomes
  • Completes projects to improve services and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
