Description

Rockhurst University is currently seeking applications for an Admissions Counselor. Founded by the Jesuits in 1910, Rockhurst is a comprehensive university of four thousand students that offers more than fifty undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs taught by nationally recognized faculty. The role of an Admissions Counselor is to market the university to prospective students. This position will counsel and enroll undergraduate students. The preferred candidate must have an undergraduate degree and have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Candidates must be willing to travel and work nights and weekends, especially during the fall and spring semesters. Understanding of the Jesuit mission plus experience in recruiting/counseling students preferred but not required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Formulate and implement recruitment strategies, plans and goals for an assigned recruitment territory based on market research and other admissions data.
  • Develop working knowledge of Rockhurst University's distinctives, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with prospective students and families via phone, email, text message, and in-person communication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school counselors/advisors and other school, agency, and community officials in the region.
  • Communicate information about Rockhurst's admission requirements and procedures to prospective students, families, counselors, community-based organizations, and alumni volunteers through excellent written and verbal/presentation skills.
  • Communicate financial aid and scholarship procedures, practices, and awards to students.
  • Travel extensively to schools and attend college fairs in assigned regions. Strategically identify key schools with the greatest potential for enrollment success for closer cultivation and attention.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities to include travel within the assigned territory, with evening and weekend work expected to cover events and recruitment activities.
  • Determine initial admission decisions for all applications received from assigned territory.
  • Maintain accurate reports and records pertaining to school visits, recruitment funnels, and communication activities.
  • Monitor admission trends in critical markets and implement contingency plans as needed.
  • Execute responsibilities in an environment that provides a high level of autonomy while keeping supervisor informed of progress towards attainment of admission objectives.
  • Assist in transfer credit evaluation and provide degree information to students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of higher education admission and recruitment practices, principles, trends, and strategies.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of admissions, marketing, and enrollment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of customer and student service.
  • Knowledge of basic project management and organizational practices.
  • Knowledge of functionality of CRM programs and higher education student information systems.
  • Skill in independently performing, organizing, and prioritizing work activities.
  • Skill in verbal, presentation, and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to produce reports, analyze and evaluate recruitment activities and territory trends.
  • Ability to develop and conduct group presentations targeted to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to articulate professionally and concisely verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
