Position Summary

Delaware County Community College (DCCC), located outside of the Philadelphia Metro area, is looking for a dynamic Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs to join our team of higher education professionals who are committed to student success. The Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs will report directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs. This position assists in the development and support of onboarding and retention strategies for Delaware County Community College students and provides strategic leadership on programs that enhance student retention and completion.

The AVP for Student Affairs is a leadership position that requires excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude of continuous improvement and operational excellence. The AVP will identify and implement best practices, evaluate, and manage performance of the departments they supervise, keep abreast of emerging trends, and bring innovation to the College. The AVP will prioritize working collaboratively throughout the College to deliver exceptional customer service. In conjunction with the Vice President for Student Affairs, the AVP for Student Affairs will provide leadership in the analysis of information and data necessary to formulate strategic, college-wide retention and completion plans and goals. This will include the development and maintenance of onboarding strategies, communications, materials, and outreach activities to meet established goals. This position oversees the budget and supervision of academic advising, transfer and articulation, the College’s Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) program, and shared support staff for collocated student affairs departments.

Essential Functions

Essential Function

  • In collaboration with the VP for Student Affairs, provide strategic leadership in advancing DCCC’s retention and completion goals in accordance with the College’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Provide leadership, strategic direction, and support to the College’s academic advising, articulation and transfer, Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) offices, and shared support staff for collocated student affairs departments.
  • Create and chair a New Student Orientation Committee to develop, implement, and assess the College’s new student orientation programs and other onboarding activities.
  • In collaboration with the VP, Student Affairs, and other internal stakeholders, achieve annual net retention goals for the institution.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to ensure all current and recently stopped out students are kept engaged and informed of upcoming registration dates, activities, and deadlines.
  • In collaboration with partners across the College (e.g., Recruitment and Enrollment Management, Student Accounts, Student Affairs, OIT, Security, Marketing and Communications), coordinate, manage, and advertise upcoming registration opportunities, including drop-in registration events, in a timely manner.
  • Conduct appropriate outcomes-driven assessment efforts and provide reports on strategy effectiveness.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of all activities, programs and events conducted through the academic advising, transfer and articulation, and Keystone Education Yields Success (KEYS) offices.
  • Assess retention activities, services, and programs to promote innovation and improvement to keep pace with a rapidly changing, complex, and competitive higher education environment.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal partners to ensure seamless transitions for students along the enrollment continuum.
  • In collaboration with the VP, Student Affairs, provide data analysis on and remain current of market forces, demographic changes, trends, and other factors that might influence retention to successfully address those challenges.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of various technologies to improve retention and onboarding efforts, including communications management and workflow processing as they relate to the enrollment funnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state admissions regulations related to student affairs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategies that foster greater student engagement, diversity, inclusion, and a college-wide culture of caring.
  • Communicate a positive image of the College and be available to address impromptu situations during non-traditional work hours, as needed.
  • Represent the VP, Student Affairs and the Student Affairs Division when required.
  • Participate in interactive, on-site meetings during normal business hours and on a regular basis, regular on-site Office of Student Affairs office hours.
  • Perform all other duties necessary to accomplish the educational objectives of the College and/or as assigned by the VP, Student Affairs.
  • Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner.
  • Prepare purchase orders and maintain files on open orders
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • The successful candidate must be an engaging, effective, innovative, dynamic leader who is strategic and fosters collaboration in a manner that is flexible and supportive yet ensures accountability. This individual will be able to demonstrate the use of best practice strategies associated with student affairs leadership, retention and completion. The AVP will have a demonstrated ability to encourage, model, embrace, and incorporate diverse thought and perspective of all individuals of various backgrounds, ideas, and perspectives to foster an all-inclusive environment and drive results.

    Experience & Education

    Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated successful student affairs leadership experience, preferably in college advising and retention. Gradual increase of leadership experience and scope of responsibility in a higher education environment. Prior experience in a community college setting is preferred. BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, counseling, or other related field of study is required or an equivalent combination of related experience and education. Masters’ degree is preferred
