Job Summary/Basic Function:
NOTE : This position is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents only.
The International Student ADVISOR (ISA ) helps the International Student and Scholar Center (ISSC ) Office to provide and maintain quality service for International Students and Scholars and their dependents. In conjunction with the Executive Director, the advisor administers immigration rules and policies related to international students and scholars, with SEVIS F-1 and J-1 visa holders and their dependents. The ISA advises students on employment, financial, and cultural issues and works with various campus entities regarding international student issues. The advisor guides the development of process aimed at the streamlining and rendering information regarding immigration responsibilities for F-1 and J-1 Students. The advisor provides detailed professional and technical knowledge as it relates to non-immigrant visas and SEVIS compliance issues. The ISA serves as a Designated School Official (DSO ) and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO ).
Required Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
• DSO experience in post-secondary education
• One year of full-time related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
• First-hand experience working with Banner
• Experience with cross cultural communication and working with various cultural student populations
• Experience in providing one-on-one academic advisement to students in a college setting
• Understanding of SEVIS Rules and Regulations for F-1 and J-1 students
• Experience as an ARO for Exchange Visitors
• Experience working with international students in a college setting
