Department Summary

International Affairs is a guide and champion for campus internationalization at the University of North Texas. It is our mission to support the university's global endeavors and international initiatives. We support international teaching and research, and provide expertise and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

Position Overview

The Vice Provost for International Affairs reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, providing vision and leadership in all areas of international education. As the Senior International Officer (SIO) for the University of North Texas, the Vice Provost for International Affairs is expected to:

• Provide administrative leadership for a centralized International Affairs unit that delivers comprehensive campus support including but not limited to international recruitment, immigration services, study abroad, academic ESL instruction, and a wide variety of global engagement programs/partnerships.

• Design and implement strategic initiatives to enhance UNT’s reputation as a leader in international education and research.

• Collaborate with academic colleges and departments to internationalize curriculum, secure external funding, pursue research in the field of international education, and contribute to student success.

• Collaborate with the Vice President for Enrollment, the Vice Provost for Toulouse Graduate School, deans, appropriate program directors, UNT Admissions, and external recruitment partners to coordinate international student recruitment strategies.

• Collaborate with various campus and external stakeholders to expand UNT’s brand and global impact.

• Collaborate with the International Affairs leadership team to develop strategic multi-year budget modeling that can effectively adapt to international trends, challenges, and opportunities.

• Selectively identify, cultivate, evaluate, and sustain strategic partnerships with international institutions.

• Inform and assist university constituents on issues and trends related to international students, such as recruitment, employment, support programing, and immigration.

• Foster international awareness among faculty, staff, students, and the North Texas community.

• Collaborate with the Division of Advancement to enhance external funding resources.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of University policies and procedures, Texas rules and regulations, and U.S. laws related to the functional area.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate will possess a master’s degree in related field, ten years of closely related professional experience, with a minimum of three years at SIO level, which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Leadership experience in international engagement, international student recruitment and support, inter-cultural communication, and the development of globally relevant curriculum.
• Demonstrated understanding of global issues and the impact those issues have on international education.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of current national and international enrollment management practices for both graduate and undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated skills integrating the needs and expectations of international students and scholars and institutional academic services.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable independent and professional judgment in matters of significance.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
• Strong planning and project management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to foster effective and collegial working relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in teams.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
• Ph.D. in related field.
• Minimum of three years of director level experience in a functional area of international affairs.
• Publications/presentations in the area of international education.
• Previous experience working or living abroad and substantial knowledge about higher education trends across countries and regions of the world.
• Recognition by related professional organizations as an experienced mentor and leader.
