The Senior Adviser works with College of Arts and Science (A&S) undergraduates to foster academic success. The Senior Adviser meticulously tracks student progress toward semester and degree requirements, identifying those facing challenges. The Senior Adviser engages with undergraduates to provide guidance on A&S academic policies and procedures, with a particular focus on students encountering academic difficulties and non-academic issues that may affect their success. In consultation with Assistant Deans in the A&S Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), the Senior Adviser determines appropriate interventions for students struggling academically and outlines actions for those failing to meet requirements. The Senior Adviser also offers administrative and programmatic support to the A&S OUE and the A&S Dean's Office.
This is an on-campus position, where in-office presence is required at least 4 days per week. A work from home option may be available 1 day per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Advising: 30%
- Meet with students with questions about semester and degree requirements
- Provide clear information about A&S undergraduate academic policy and procedure
- Accurately document advising conversations noting expectations, recommendations, and next steps for students
- Meet with students considering a leave of absence and submit leave paperwork as needed
- Participate in professional development activities to remain competent and informed of the most effective advising techniques and theories
- Handle and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information, including student health and personal information
Academic Case Management/Tracking: 55%
- Develop and Manage a Comprehensive Database: Design and oversee a sophisticated database system that monitors undergraduate academic performance, integrating and automating the extraction of various student records and reports.
- Establish and Implement Screening Protocols: Create and execute a systematic schedule for identifying Arts & Sciences undergraduates facing academic challenges, such as discrepancies in class rolls, midterm performance issues, and insufficient academic progress.
- Facilitate Communication with At-Risk Students: Proactively engage with students encountering academic difficulties by providing timely notifications and coordinating advising meetings to address their specific needs.
- Advise on Academic Interventions: Analyze cases of students who do not meet academic requirements, recommending targeted interventions and systematically tracking their outcomes to ensure improvement.
- Monitor Special Course Load Outcomes: Oversee and assess the academic performance of students enrolled in special course loads (overloads and underloads), ensuring appropriate support and resources are provided.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Student Academic Success: Actively support the Assistant Dean in managing CARE Team meetings and various responsibilities, contributing to a holistic approach to student academic success.
- Manage Dean's Notifications for Non-Academic Issues: Coordinate the process of sending and tracking Dean's Notifications for students experiencing non-academic challenges, ensuring timely communication and support.
- Provide Advising Support to Students: Assist student visitors with advisingrelated inquiries, offering guidance both in-person and through email or telephone communication, fostering a supportive academic environment.
Committee Support: 15%
- Prepare materials for Arts and Science Administrative Committee meetings and serve as ex-office member of the committee
Additional duties as assigned
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility; the position reports administratively and functionally to the Administrative Manager of the A&S OUE.
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree and at least 2 years of experience in student advising, career counseling, human resources, or an equivalent setting is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in any subject and at least 5 years of experience in student advising or support services, including counseling, educational programming, working with faculty and employers, and administrative responsibilities is necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal written and oral communications skills are necessary.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information is necessary.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems is necessary.
- Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements is necessary.
- Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records is necessary.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills are necessary.
- Records maintenance skills are necessary.
- Understanding of Student Information Privacy Laws and Ethics including FERPA is necessary.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports is necessary.
- Ability to work both as a member of a team and independently is necessary.
- Knowledge of student success and retention issues is preferred.
- Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects is preferred.
- Knowledge of student success and retention issues is preferred.
- Microsoft Office proficiency (including Word and Excel) is required.
- Experience with REDCap is a plus.
- Experience with dashboard/data management is preferred.
