Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

SALARY RANGE: $100,000-$115,000
LOCATION: ON SITE
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Academic Support and working closely with all campus department faculty and staff, the Director of Student Affairs develops, implements and career placement activities and programs and programs. Oversees and directs administrative support for student relations activities such as orientation, retention, student recognition, non-academic student advising, student satisfaction strategies and graduation ceremonies. Provides assistance to students and other department to ensure quality in all student services functions. Conducts on-going student satisfaction reviews, makes recommendations on areas for improvement, and maintains current knowledge in the field of student affairs/student services. Coordinates and organizes student member organizations on campus. In addition to the above, the Director of Student Affairs is responsible for services in the areas of student recruitment, admissions, progression, and graduation activities. Coordination of academic advising, administration of College of Nursing financial aid, including scholarships; planning and coordination of school sponsored, student focused events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Assistant Dean of Academic Support, in the management and supervision of staff and programs within the Assistant Dean’s area of responsibility.
- Provides direct supervision of classified staff.
- Evaluates all programs under their supervision and recommends programmatic goals and objectives to the Assistant Dean of Academic Support.
- Acts as the ombudsperson for the student grievance process.
- Develops and monitors the budget and budgeting process in the areas under their supervision.
- Enforces University policy and procedures.
- Coordinates degree certification process.
- Verifies education degree completion requests from prospective employers.
- Plans, coordinates student orientation activities and graduation activities.
- Coordinates allocations of scholarships, traineeship, fellowships, and other financial aid monies.
- Liaison to University units like registrar, academic departments, and graduate division.
- Supervise administrative support staff and provide support to faculty and faculty committees.
- Collaborate with the CDU Office of Enrollment and Management services in the management of student records.
- Develop admission, evaluation, advancement, and completion policies in accordance with the MMDCON and CDU.
- Determine that each application for enrollment in the program meets the admission criteria established by the MMDCON and the BRN
- Provide for the protection of all student records and transcripts as described in the California Administration Code.
- Process all forms for licensure and certification as required by the BRN and certification agencies.
- Participate in recruitment activities, e.g., career and high school fairs.
- Works with program faculty to provide accurate and timely student attendance information to the Office of Enrollment and Management Services.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- Regionally accredited master’s degree in education, counseling, administration, human development, student personnel, or related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five to eight years’ experience in an academic setting or academic service setting of which 5 years must have been in a management-level position involving administrative, supervisory or director-level duties concerned with customer service administration/relations.
- Three to five years of practical and administrate experience in the field of student affairs/service, preferably in a university and/or independent academic institution.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
- Evidence of strong supervisory and managerial skills, including assessment and evaluation skills.
- Proficient skills and experience in Microsoft Office computer software.
- Knowledge of nursing educational program development.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, including nursing guidelines set by the Board of Registered Nursing.
- Knowledge of curriculum development
- Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in the nursing field.
- Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within nursing and the healthcare industry.
- Knowledge of health-related education in a global economy.
- Ability to recruit for and market an education program.
- Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities.
- Demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public service.
- Demonstrated a willingness to perform and a commitment to extra-curricular responsibilities on behalf of the department, school, and University.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
