We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in areas including but not limited to diplomacy; international security; humanitarianism, trade, finance and development; human rights; or the environment. We are also interested in candidates able to apply thematic expertise to specific countries or regions. Successful candidates must demonstrate professional excellence and leadership, normally through distinguished service in senior-level positions over an extended period of time. Successful candidates also must exhibit a commitment to public policy education as a means to develop leaders in international affairs and the interest and ability to teach, mentor and advise students on professional issues and engage with academic researchers effectively. The Professor of Practice will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, hold regular office hours, lead relevant programmatic activities, engage with relevant communities of practice, and participate actively in the governance of the Hamilton Lugar School, including through service on relevant faculty committees. The Professor of Practice will also contribute to the School’s output and visibility by engaging with the media, sharing insights at relevant off-campus forums, and publishing occasional written analyses such as op-eds or policy papers. A graduate degree in a field related to international affairs is preferred, and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required. This position will entail an initial three-year appointment, with annual renewals through year seven, and the opportunities for long-term contracts to follow. This appointment is anticipated to begin on August 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2024, with all applications received by that date being guaranteed full consideration. Applications received after the guaranteed consideration date may be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Candidates should submit the following materials: a detailed curriculum vitae; a personal statement outlining relevant professional experience, career goals, and interest in the position; and a list of at least three people whom we may contact for references if the candidate proceeds to become a finalist for the position. We also encourage applicants to submit one or more written works as supplementary materials within their application portfolio that demonstrate their writing and analysis, as well as sample teaching materials and student evaluations from courses that the applicant has taught (if applicable). Applicant referees will receive an email link to submit their letters of reference directly to the search committee through the PeopleAdmin interface.
