Position Announcement
The University of Oregon’s Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Political Science, to begin in fall 2025. We seek candidates with expertise in any aspect of International Relations, while noting particular interest in international political economy (IPE), China-related expertise, and innovative data analysis methodologies such as machine learning and the use of AI. Competitive applicants will be capable of outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Department or Program Summary
Our faculty employ diverse theoretical and methodological approaches but share the pursuit of meaningful answers to big questions with real-world implications. We serve a large and thriving undergraduate major and a PhD program that enrolls an average of six students a year. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

In addition to our focus on research excellence, our department is constantly adjusting to improve our undergraduate and graduate experience. For example, in recent years we have revised our undergraduate curriculum to feature students’ career-related pathways, gathered statistics to lessen equity gaps in gateway-class outcomes, reformed our graduate curriculum to strengthen cohorts’ common training, and streamlined the process for graduate qualifying exams.

Junior faculty in political science will be supported through the transition to tenure, including reduced service expectations and access to university-wide programs (which include new faculty mentorship, and training in teaching through the Teaching Engagement Program). The political science department invests in the success of each new colleague and seeks to support faculty in successful and impactful careers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Minimum Requirements
• Ph.D. in Political Science or related field in hand by time of appointment.
• The successful candidate is expected to have developed a rigorous research program and to be ready to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
