Responsibilities
Serve on the administrative team managing the Center for Global Engagement Special Programs with approximately 160 international students attending 10-day intensive summer program on the FSU campus followed by six months of Academic Training at Walt Disney World (WDW). Assist with program administration, provide intercultural workshops for the Special Program students, and assist with student support throughout spring, summer, and fall. Serve as an instructor for the Special Programs’ course in Applied Intercultural Communication for fall semester and for the required course in the Global Citizenship Certificate for fall and/or spring.
- Program Administration- Take lead role in FSU program application process in spring including non-degree student admission, completion of required immunizations, program payment and insurance purchase, and course registration. Assist with the planning and implementation of the summer program for three different groups on the FSU campus in collaboration with other team members. Rotate responsibilities and coverage with other team members during the 10-day on campus programs to ensure consistent coverage for program related events. Assist with interviewing student applicants recommended by partner universities as needed.
- Instruction- Serve as instructor of record for Applied Intercultural Communication course for Special Programs during fall semester while students are at WDW. Travel monthly to WDW to facilitate in-person classes, and review and grade online discussions and assignments. Facilitate a variety of workshops during the summer intensive programs on the FSU campus to help prepare students to successfully transition into US culture and succeed in their six months of academic training at WDW. Serve as instructor for one three-credit Global Perspectives course for fall semester and one Global Perspectives course for spring semester as needed. Global Perspectives is the required course for the Global Citizenship Certificate offered to degree seeking FSU students.
- Student Support- Provide support, along with other team members, to Special Programs students throughout the program at FSU and during Academic Training at WDW. Respond to student concerns, questions, and requests for support via email, Teams, or phone. Guide students to appropriate resources and follow internal procedures for documenting student issues and communicating to fellow team members.
- Attend major Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and Dean of Student Affairs (DSA) events and programs, attend CGE meetings, and serve on committees.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. or close to completion, in Global Studies, Intercultural Communication, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching at the college or university level.
- A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Ability to travel from Tallahassee to Orlando for three days per month in summer through fall to teach classes to students in internships at Walt Disney World.
- Ability to work non-standard work schedule, including some weekends and evenings, throughout the summer.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to comply with federal regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with international students.
- Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
- Experience with program management.
- Knowledge of principles of student affairs and experience providing student support outside the classroom.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
