POSITION TITLE: International Short-Term Program Nursing Instructor
HIRING UNIT: University of Hawaii - West Oahu
LOCATION: Kapolei, HI
POSITION TYPE: Casual Hire
HOURLY RATE: $65.00 per hour, not to exceed 20 hours per week.

OTHER CONDITIONS: Position is expected to start on or after December 16, 2024 and not to exceed January 15, 2025.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Health/Nursing instructors for the University of Hawaii-West O‘ahu's International Short Term Programs are responsible for instructing program participants about Medical Terminology and English used in a medical setting. Nursing instructors shall plan, organize, and carry out responsibilities associated with the role of an instructor. We need up to 1 instructor for this position.

This position will be employed directly under the University of Hawaii - West Oahu.

  • Teach students Medical Terminology + Medical English in an in-person and/or online setting
  • Create lessons, projects, and activities in English to enhance lectures
  • Immerse students in an English-speaking environment and local culture
  • Provide students with a learning opportunity to broaden educational experience and deepen their understanding of American and Hawaiian culture
  • Instruct 2-hour English lessons
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possession of a Bachelors degree (or higher) in Nursing or related medical field.
  • At least one year of teaching experience (can be in teaching in healthcare field) and/or one year of experience in the healthcare field.
  • Demonstrate respect for values and cultural difference.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable nature.
  • Ability to travel (on island).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience working with international students.
  • Experience teaching students at the college/university level.
