Job Summary
Sacred Heart School seeks a full-time (30+ hours) Extended School Services Director to lead a well-established and highly attended extended day program. The candidate guides a team to provide a fun and safe childcare environment for students in pre-k through 8th grade before (7:00 am - 8:15 am) and after school (3:15 pm - 6:00 pm). The ESS director is not expected to be present both before and after school each day. Typically, the director will be present after school each day with occasional morning duties. Summer work opportunities are available but not required.
Responsibilities
- Overseeing annual program registration and daily drop-in openings
- Billing accounts monthly; overseeing the budget for program expenses
- Hiring, training, scheduling, and managing a team of Extended School Services Aides
- Maintaining compliance of DCYF regulations with licensed pre-k group
- Directing and overseeing supervision of students before and after school to ensure safety, homework completion, and an overall positive student experience
- Planning and implementing games, crafts, and activities and handling associated ordering
- Ensuring that student attendance is accurately tracked and that children are properly signed out to approved adults or transitioned to on-campus activities such as CYO sports practices
- Ensuring shared spaces are respected and left in good condition for next use
- Responding to illness and injuries outside of health room hours
- Managing student behavior; interfacing with school administration about any serious behavioral issues
- Coordinating childcare for staff and parents during occasional school activities (e.g., professional development days, school conferences)
Qualifications
- Professional experience working with school age children in group settings such as schools or camps
- Professional experience as a supervisor or manager of a team, especially giving constructive feedback on performance
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel
- Current DCYF clearance or willingness to complete requirements including 30-hour STARS training within 30 days of being hired (training will be paid time)
- Current First Aid/CPR training or willingness to complete it within 30 days of being hired (training will be paid time)
- A degree in early childhood development, education, or a related field is a plus, but not required

- Not easily overwhelmed by a (at times) busy, loud, and/or demanding environment
- Ability to stand or walk for much of the afternoon or morning shift
- Punctuality and reliability
- Most importantly: genuinely caring about the experience of every single student (not just the easy ones, or the youngest kids, but all of them) and understanding that what ESS replaces for most kids is valuable downtime at home; seeing the value in the program and what it provides; viewing the ESS program as an extension of the learning and formation that takes place during the school day
