Description
PURPOSE
Under general direction the Progressive Student Advisor is responsible for assisting with the university-wide development of a relationship-based model of holistic advising in support of the educational, career and personal success of the student.

Duties/Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Work in an advising and mentoring relationship with current university students.
2. Provide holistic advising and problem-solving to students by appointment and on a drop-in-basis.
3. Provide guidance for students as they develop and implement a personal wellness portfolio.
4. Assist students with the transition into college and major areas of study.
5. Facilitate instruction related to the first year experience for new university students.
6. Develop and maintain appropriate student records for the purpose of advising.
7. Assist with the student registration process.
8. Work collaboratively with other offices, including but not limited to Admissions, Registrar, Student Success, Career Counseling & Placement, and Student Administrative Services.
9. Coordinate problem solving between the Progressive Advisement for Student Success Office and other academic and administrative support services.
10. Coordinate selected advisement related outreach activities or programs depending on experience and staffing needs,
11. Lead advisement discussions during new student orientations.
12. Deliver interactive presentations to small and large groups of students around advisement topics.
13. Interact with faculty and administration to enhance advisement for students.
14. Assist with the publication of advisement materials and other assigned projects.
15. Represent the office on standing university committees and collaborative work teams.
16. Demonstrate and nurture cultural competence when working with students, staff and faculty in a diverse university environment.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.
2. Exhibits student centeredness in performance of all job duties.
3. Treats all others with respect; understands the impact of culture/background on the behavior of others; respects differences among the Life community and demonstrates inclusive behavior.
4. Anticipates, listens to, understands and responds to customer needs. Delivers work products and services to customers in a way that reflects positively upon the department and the University.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience
1. Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field.
2. Must be fluent in Spanish and have one year experience in advising at the collegiate level.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience working with unique student populations.
2. Experience facilitating first year and academic success courses at the college level.
3. Working knowledge of Datatel's Colleague platform.
