Purpose:

Texas Athletics Student Services is seeking Academic Support Specialists for the Fall 2024 semester. Academic Support Specialists will support student-athlete academic success by providing administrative support in the Academic Center and other locations as needed. Academic Support Specialists will report to the Assistant Director, Learning Services.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the daily attendance and promptness of student-athletes assigned to study hall and tutoring
  • Communicate regularly with Athletics Staff Members to ensure student-athlete accountability
  • Monitor front desk and assist student-athletes, coaches, and visitors at the UFCU Academic Center
  • Assist with distribution of school supplies
  • Facilitate tutor/student connections
  • Trouble shoot technology/printer problems in the UFCU Academic Center
  • Maintain cleanliness and supplies throughout the UFCU Academic Center
  • Perform regular class checking to ensure attendance of student-athletes
  • Provide supplemental academic support in one-on-one or small-session tutoring appointments, as needed
  • Encourage student-athlete academic success by guiding them to think critically about course materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Texas Education Code Sec. 51.252, this position may be a Non-Confidential Employee as defined by University policies on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Interpersonal Violence and Stalking. As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of such prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy. Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, effective and organized manner
  • Must adhere to all NCAA, University of Texas and University of Texas Athletics policies, rules and regulations
  • Current undergraduate and graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin must be enrolled full-time (NCAA Requirement)
  • Undergraduate students must have completed two semesters of classes at The University of Texas at Austin before applying
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Pursuing a degree or career goal in education


Salary Range:
  • $17.00+/hour depending on qualifications/relevant experience

  • Some heavy lifting and moving up to 25 lbs. may be required


Work Shift:
  • Spring 2025 (Rehire eligible based on performance at the end of each academic semester)
  • Work will be performed in-person, on campus
  • Flexible between Monday-Thursday from 8 AM - 9:30 PM, Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM and Sunday from 5 PM - 9 PM; Weekly hours vary and can be set around class schedule
  • Must be available to attend the orientation session at the beginning of the semester
  • Must be available to attend training sessions, as needed
  • May work evenings and weekends
