The Director of International Initiatives will advance the strategic goals of the Office of Global Engagement and the University of Georgia at the direction of the Associate Provost for Global Engagement. The Director works closely with UGA units such as the Office of Research, Legal Affairs, Institutional Research, and Sponsored Projects Administration, as well as with administrators and faculty in UGA’s academic units and research centers to facilitate with new and existing international partners international collaborations in teaching and research, the development of collaborative degree programs, joint academic programming, and projects geared towards capacity building abroad. This role will directly contribute to UGA’s internationalization efforts.  

 

The Director will coordinate OGE’s internal grant programs supporting faculty and graduate student mobility, working with strategic partner universities and funding agencies abroad. Responsibilities here will include defining in collaboration with faculty and administrators research target areas, developing seed funding initiatives, soliciting proposals, recruiting committee members, overseeing proposal reviews, communicating with award recipients, and enforcing reporting requirements. The Director will secure and administer grants that align with the mission and scope of the Office of Global Engagement from federal agencies, private foundations, or other funding bodies. Additionally, the Director will establish metrics, guide data gathering to support strategic initiatives, and manage UGA’s interactive inventory of global engagement. This is a supervisory role, responsible for developing and managing the budget related to office operations, federal grants, and cooperative agreements.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Develops, maintains and executes programming with strategic partner universities and support international research collaborations.  Serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on grants from various federal agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, USAID, the US Department of State, etc. Solicits funding from private foundations and other funding bodies.                         30% Develops, maintains and executes programming with strategic partner universities and support international research collaborations.  Defines research target areas, solicits proposals, recruits committee members, oversees the review of the proposals, communicates with award recipients, and enforces reporting requirements.                   20 % Provides guidance to deans and faculty interested in developing international collaborations and programs and leading teams to partner sites for in-depth engagement.  Facilitates international faculty research and service, including the identification and pursuit of extramural funding to support international engagement projects of strategic importance to UGA.               20% Oversees UGA’s international partnerships, including negotiation of strategic partnership agreements.    15% Establishes metrics, gathering data and maintaining UGA’s interactive inventory of global engagement.   10% Other duties as assigned.              5% Preferred Qualifications
