The GEA will join a team of committed international educators at W&M, a premier public research university located in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, to serve as an integral member of our Global Education Office (GEO).  The Global Education Advisor focuses on increasing study abroad applied learning opportunities and access through supporting study abroad programs, advising students about international opportunities and cross-cultural development, and enhancing the study abroad experience by increasing student self-reflection and career connections.

Core Responsibilities include: 

  *   Supporting and managing select study abroad programs, including coordinating program logistics at home and abroad and working with W&M and overseas partners and faculty.

  *   Enhancing career development components for study abroad programs in line with the university’s vision and commitment to applied learning and career preparedness.

  *   Advising students on study abroad opportunities, processes, and policies by developing expertise of select portfolio of programs; preparing students prior to departure and supporting participants while abroad and upon return.

  *   Promoting policies, practices, and procedures that foster an inclusive environment as well as increase access to international education by addressing barriers.

Requirements:  A successful applicant should possess all of the following: 

  *   Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education, experience, and training.

  *   Experience developing and supporting study abroad programs.

  *   Knowledge of and experience with cross-cultural issues.

  *   Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with a diverse range of constituents.

 

Preferred:  The preferred candidate will also have one or more of the following qualifications: 

  *   Graduate degree.

  *   Second language skills.

  *   Experience studying, living, or working abroad.

  *   Experience with student advising.
