Job Description

IOTA Community Schools seeks a Director of Student Services who will work closely with the Chief of Academic Advancement to support the day-to-day operations of our Memphis schools. We genuinely believe that every student, whatever their circumstances, holds the innate potential to achieve their goals and succeed. Our staff is committed to continuing their own learning and refining their practice to stay current in the field, ensuring a quality education for all.

The Director of Student Services is responsible for codifying and integrating the framework for the cultural and behavioral model of IOTA Community Schools across all campuses for all students. This individual will oversee the development and implementation of programs and services that support all students' academic, social, and emotional needs in a K-12 public charter school setting. This role involves collaboration with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.

The ideal candidate for this role will have 6-12th grade experience as a licensed school administrator, a strong understanding of coaching, knowledge, and experience supporting Special Populations, and a comprehensive understanding of the policies and procedures needed for the successful execution of a discipline and behavior matrix for students in middle and high school.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development and Oversight: Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive student services programs, including special education, therapy, social, and behavioral support.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to student services, including IDEA, Section 504, Title IX, and ELL (English Language Learner) requirements.
  • Student Support Team (SST) Coordination: Oversee the Student Support Team process to identify and support students requiring additional academic or behavioral interventions.
  • Behavior Oversight: Oversee the implementation of the Response to Intervention for Behavior (RTI-B) framework and behavior programming to support positive behavior interventions and practices across the network.
  • Family and Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with families and community organizations to enhance student support services and resources.
  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Integrate SEL initiatives across the school to promote positive student behavior and emotional well-being. Implement the Grounded curriculum for middle schools and social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives for high schools to foster holistic student development.
  • Oversight of Special Populations: Manage services for special populations, including students with disabilities, English Language Learners (ELL), and those experiencing homelessness or in foster care.
  • Student Discipline and Remands: Oversee student discipline policies and procedures, including remand processes, to ensure fair and consistent application while promoting positive behavior.
  • Parent Concerns: Address parent concerns promptly and effectively, fostering open communication and collaboration with families regarding student needs and services.
  • Crisis Management and Intervention: Develop and implement crisis intervention protocols and support systems for students needing immediate assistance.
  • Professional Development: Provide training and support for staff on best practices in student services, behavior intervention, and inclusive education.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze student performance and behavior data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Collaboration with Administration: Work closely with school leadership to align student services with the school’s mission, vision, and academic goals. Provide targeted coaching to Assistant Principals to enhance school culture and promote a positive learning environment.
